Statistical analyses Frequency counts and descriptive statistics were calculated for initial basic symptoms, observed and self-perceived psychopathology. Differences in initial psychopathology between those patients at risk who experienced a transition to psychosis during follow-up and those who did not were tested by Mann–Whitney U-tests. Fisher’s exact test statistics, sensitivity, specificity and related measures were calculated in the prospective part. Data on neuropsychology were analysed by non-parametric statistics because of small sample size and asymmetrical distributions of raw data. Mann–Whitney U-tests were used to analyse the difference between prodromal patients and the two control groups (normal controls and patients with schizophrenia).
